S.O. Tech Personal Electornics Pouch (PEP)

June 29, 2011

A while back I got this pouch from S.O. Tech. Its essentially a pouch for a cell phone that can mount to MOLLE.

The pouch opens with a magnetic closure. The inside of the pouch has a lining of smoother nylon while the outside of the flap and face is constructed from 500D Cordura. The edges of the flap are rounded out and sewn inside to prevent fraying. There is a thin layer of padding sewn in between the 2 layers of nylon.

The pouch attaches to MOLLE via S.O. Tech’s own Flex-Tab system. The straps are sewn nylon with a bent plastic piece in the end that locks onto a bottom row of webbing. This attachment system is very secure but can be cumbersome when attaching and removing the pouch.

This pouch holds my iphone 3gs and iphone 4 fine without a case. You can also fit ipods and blackberrys and other similarly sized smartphones and mp3 players. As long as the device isn’t too tall or wide it the pouch flap should be able to close.

If your phone has a case of some sort on it you will have trouble getting the lid to close. On both my iphone 3gs and iphone 4 I have Magpul cases on them and the lid does not close. I would assume that any type of case that adds thickness or bulk to the phone would prevent the lid from closing.

This case is okay, but there are a few things that need to be changed like the magnetic closure, it opens too easily, and closing the pouch can be a hassle depending on what device you keep in the pouch. The pouch needs to be able to fit phones with cases properly. The pouch’s construction is very good, there are just small details that need to be improved to make this pouch great. This pouch is available in Multicam, ACU,black, coyote brown, olive drab and ranger green. The PEP cost 17$ with a 3$ up charge for Multicam.

I do not have a Otterbox case to try it with but with the Magpul cases the lid doesn’t close properly.
